First Touch of Water in West Turkana

A newly drilled borehole brings clean water to a drought-hit community

For generations, families in this part of West Turkana walked hours a day to fetch water from a shared, often contaminated source. That changed this year when Zayan Pillar of Hope, working with the local community, completed the drilling of a new borehole serving the area.

The project is part of our wider push to bring safe water to drought-prone parts of Kenya, where a lack of reliable water access drives both preventable illness and the daily burden of walking long distances just to fetch it.

Community members were closely involved throughout, from selecting the site to the final test of the pump. For many children in the area, this was the first time they had seen clean water come directly from the ground where they live.

We're grateful to everyone who supported this project, and we'll keep drilling boreholes like this one in other drought-affected communities across Kenya.
